Chandler Burr (US’82, C’86)
Olfactory expert
Chandler Burr is a novelist, journalist, museum curator, and foremost expert in olfactory arts. His two books about the art behind the industry of scent, The Emperor of Scent: A True Story of Perfume and Obsession and The Perfect Scent: A Year Inside the Perfume Industry in Paris and New York, as well as his position as the New York Times perfume critic, led to his creating the Museum of Art and Design’s Department of Olfactory Art.
While trotting the globe to research for his scent work, Burr found time to write and publish an acclaimed novel, You Or Someone Like You. “It’s about how literature shows us who we are. That’s a lesson I learned in Clark Beim-Esche’s Principia AP English class.”
