Dr. Austin Lines (US’07)
Investigating the globe’s final frontier
As we’ve seen, these Principia scholars are not sequestered in ivory towers. For Dr. Austin Lines, it’s more like a snowy igloo.
Lines’s story demonstrates the indomitable spirit of discovery and passion for putting learning into practice that characterize this whole group. While earning his PhD from Dart- mouth, Dr. Lines designed and built a custom rover for ground-penetrating radar systems to study arctic and antarctic ice sheets. The rover has been used for scientific research, and even recovering the remains of a downed aircraft. Today, he is a research mechanical engineer in Antarctica and the co-founder of Polar Research Equipment.
