A Leader in Education Joins Principia’s Board of Trustees

 

Dr. Ann Austin has spent a lifetime shaping higher education, from mentoring faculty to studying how colleges can become more inclusive. Principia is proud to welcome her to the Board of Trustees, where her vision and experience will inspire and uplift our community. 

 

DR. ANN AUSTIN IS A UNIVERSITY DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR AT MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY, where she has spent 35 years shaping the landscape of higher education. Over her career, she has held leadership roles including Interim Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Staff Affairs, Assistant Provost for Faculty Development, and Associate Dean for Research. She has also served as a Program Director at the National Science Foundation and was a Fulbright Fellow in South Africa. 

A Fellow of both the American Educational Research Association and the Association for the Study of Higher Education, Dr. Austin’s research focuses on organizational change, faculty development, teaching improvement, and creating inclusive academic environments. Widely published, she recently released a book on teaching evaluation with Harvard Education Press. 

Dr. Austin and her husband, John Beck, are proud parents of three grown children and grandparents to three grandsons. She draws inspiration from her Christian Science faith in both her personal life and professional endeavors and is looking forward to serving the Principia community, supporting its mission, and helping guide its future with insight and care.
